PLEASE NOTE: from Monday 17 July, the Congress Secretariat will no longer be accepting any further hotel bookings or amendments to existing bookings.  Please contact the hotel of your choice directly (contact details for the hotels can be found on the Accommodation Information Table - see link below).  The Congress Secretariat will however, be accepting bookings at the Howard College Student Residence.

Accommodation in Durban

Durban offers a wide range of accommodation, we have blocked over 3000 hotel rooms in various categories. Accommodation is based on a first come first serve basis, also note the July is the holiday period so please book your accommodation as soon as possible. Should you indicate a particular hotel, and that hotel is fully booked, every effort will be tried to book you into a same cost category hotel close to the hotel of your first choice. All accommodation in Category A, B, C and D are quoted on a daily rate, which includes breakfast.

Booking your accommodation

The hotel category table below describes the various hotels and options available to you. The hotel booking form will indicate the deposit required to secure you reservation, please note that only once your deposit has been received together with your booking form can we confirm your booking with you. Accommodation cancelled 6 weeks prior to your arrival for most hotels will have a one night non-refundable deposit (please refer to the website for your specific hotel’s cancellation policy). The Congress Secretariat will do the accommodation bookings on your behalf for categories A, B, C and D only, until 23 June 2006, thereafter delegates must book their accommodation direct with the hotel of their choice. We have listed on this website: www.sociology2006.org.za Bed and Breakfast units together with Backpackers accommodation for a wider choice and convenience however, these must be booked direct with them.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations of accommodation bookings must be received in writing on or before the 23rd of June 2006. Please note the general cancellation policy for all hotel is accommodation cancelled 6 weeks prior to your arrival for most hotels will have a one night non-refundable deposit.

Please note the delegate will be charged the finance charge for their cancellation.

Transportation from Accommodation to Congress Venues

A transport shuttle service to and from Congress Venue for delegates staying in the following accommodation categories: A, B, C and D will be provided. Delegates who book accommodation at the University residences (category B) will be dropped off as close to the residences as possible. Should delegates make their own accommodation arrangements not listed in the A, B, C and D categories or will be making use of the B&Bs and Backpackers and wish to make use of the transport shuttles, they are welcome to do so, if they make their own way to the nearest Shuttle collection point. Shuttle timetables will be posted on the Congress Website closer to the Congress, and at the ICC and each Category hotel collection point.

Airport Transportation to and from Hotels
